Menabrea Brewery

The Menabrea Brewery is the oldest active in Italy. Its history begins in 1846 thanks to the Caraccio, brothers already active in Biella coffee production. With their partner, Mr. Welf, they set up at the foot of the mountain the town's first brewery plant. Thereafter, Anton Zimmermann and Jean Joseph Menabrea acquired the entire property, which they ran until 1872. This is a symbolic date for the company because it marks Zimmermann's exit from the company and, at the same time, the birth of G. Menabrea u0026amp; Sons. Soon Menabrea beers became synonymous with quality throughout Italy, bringing prestige to the Biella area. Thanks to Quintino Sella, then minister of finance, they make their way into the drawing rooms of politics. When Carlo Menabrea, son of the founder, passed away in 1895, his widow Eugenia decided to hand over the factory to her brother Piero, who ran it until Eugenia's sons-in-law chose to found a new company, acquiring the firm and keeping its name. Under the leadership of the two brothers-in-law Antoniotti and Thedy, the brewery knows a new course.
